BOARD MEMBERS ANIE SECRETARIAT PARTNERS CONTACT US
The Board, made up of seven members and with the Executive Secretary serving as a member ex-officio, is the second governing organ of ANIE. Its members are elected by the General Assembly on the basis of equality of representation of the five regions of Africa namely Eastern Africa, Central Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa and North Africa. The Board meets at least once a year and is responsible for the realization of the objectives for which ANIE was established. It is accountable to the General Assembly for its activities and for the recruitment of senior staff into the Secretariat. It is also responsible for approving the annual budget and work plan developed by the Secretariat

CHAIRPERSON

Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti Chacha, is the Executive Secretary, Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) He holds an MPhil and PhD in Anthropological Linguistics from the Yale University as well as Bachelors and MA from the University of Nairobi (Kenya). Has held various teaching positions in a various universities in Africa and USA.  He has also held administrative positions as CEO of Higher Education Loans Board in Kenya, principal of several university colleges, dean of faculty as well as head of department.

SECRETARY

Mr. James Otieno Jowi, teaches Comparative and International Education at the School of Education, Moi University, Kenya. He has a MPhil in Comparative and International Education from University of Oslo, Norway, an MPhil in Linguistics and a Bachelor of Education both from Moi University, Kenya. He is currently concluding a PhD in Higher Education Studies at CHEPS, University of Twente, the Netherlands. Apart from his research and publications on internationalization, he is also a member of the IAU Task Force on the 3rd Global Survey on Internationalization of Higher Education

TREASURER

Prof. Bob Whishitemi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Extension), Moi University.He has held various teaching positions in a number of universities and has vast experience in project leadership and management. He has also held several administrative positions within the university sector in Kenya and has been a recipient of various research grants from various institutions. He is widely published, and is a member of academic associations.

MEMBER

Dr. David Farirai, is the Head Corporate and International Relations, University of Pretoria, South Africa and President International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA). He has previously worked at USAID, South Africa as Project Development Specialist for Higher Education and as
Director of Planning at University of the North, South Africa. He has a BA in Social Sciences, BA in Public Administration and Management and a Masters in Project Management.

MEMBER

Dr. Abdulkarim Obaje, holds a doctorate degree in Agricultural Economics and Management.  He joined the services of the National Universities Commission in 1994 as a Research Officer/Manager and has over 15 years professional experience at the National Universities Commission where he also served as Head, Special Projects Division, Head, Entrepreneurship Development Section.   He currently works as a Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant on a World Bank Assisted Project on Science and Technology Education Post Basic (STEP-B) Project of the  Federal Government. His professional interests are in the areas of sectoral policy/strategy design and implementation. 

MEMBER

Dr. Jane Knight, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, Canada focuses her research interests on the international dimension of higher education at institutional, system, national and international levels. She has worked in over 60 countries with UN agencies, universities, foundations and professional organizations helps to bring a comparative, development and international perspective to her research, teaching and policy work. She is the author of more than 80 articles/chapters/reports on internationalization concepts and strategies, quality assurance, institutional management, mobility, cross-border education, trade and capacity building. She was a Fulbright New Century Scholar 2007-2008 and sits on the advisory boards of several international organizations and journals.
