ANIE holds 1st Conference

The African Network for Internationalization of Education ANIE, held its first Annual Conference at Moi University, Kenya on 3rd and 4th September, 2009. The conference which theme was Trends, challenges and realities of internationalization of higher education in Africa brought together seventy participants from different countries within Africa and beyond. The participants included young scholars, researchers, practitioners and university administrators/executives.The conference included plenary sessions and parallel sessions during which contemporary themes on internationalization of higher education in Africa were discussed. Even though the focus of the conference theme focused on Africa, stimulating insights were drawn from other parts of the world. There were also sessions to discuss ANIE’s future plans, Action Plan and governing structures. The conference laid the grounds for future activities of ANIE such as conferences, workshops, partnerships and collaboration, fundraising etc.

The African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE) participated in the exhibitions of the COMEDAF  4TH Conference of African Ministers of Education that took place on 22- 26TH November 2009 at White sands Hotel Mombasa Kenya. The theme of the conference was “Revitalizing Higher Education in Africa”. The meeting brought together Ministers of Education from member states of the African Union (AU). The meeting focused on the progress report on the implementation of AU plan of action for the second decade of Education for Africa; The pan African University project,Mwalimu Julius Nyerere African Union Scholarship programme and partnership building towards the implementation of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) strategy among others. Participants of COMEDAF IV include officials from The AU Commission, AU member states, RECs, International Organizations and civil society.
