Higher Education Policy, Vol.22, Issue 3 (September 2009)

This issue of Higher Education Policy focused on internationalization of higher education in Africa. It explored how internationalization impacts on higher education in Africa and how this impact might be different from other world regions. The issue has six papers focusing on the central theme, five of which are contributions from members of ANIE. Three of these papers are from the new generation scholars of ANIE through whom research capacity on internationalization is being developed. The papers provide empirical analysis of salient issues on internationalization of higher education in Africa ranging from quality issues, the role of ICT, academic partnerships & collaborations, academic resources and a broader understanding of the current trends and implications of internationalization in Africa.

Higher Education in Africa: The International Dimension

ANIE was established as an outcome of the research project on Higher Education in Africa: The International Dimension. Jointly published by the Centre for International Higher Education (CIHE), Boston College and Association of African Universities (AAU), the book documents and analyses the international dimension of higher education in Africa based on country-case studies and a consideration of relevant historical and contemporary themes. It identifies the trends, developments and challenges related to the international dimension of higher education at the institutional, national and regional levels. The revelations of this publication were part of the basis for the establishment of ANIE with the aim of developing capacity and expertise on the international dimension of higher education in Africa.
