Capacity building

Building, strengthening and sustaining Africa’s capacity on the international dimension of higher education is one of the objectives of ANIE. One of the ways this is to be addressed is through the newly developed Network of Emerging Scholars on Internationalization (NESI), a Special Interest Group (SIG) of ANIE with the broad aim of developing capacity for research for a better understanding of the different dimensions, rationales and implications of internationalization in Africa. This will be done through training, mentoring and exposure programs for the young scholars to contribute to the continuity and sustainability of the broader goals of ANIE. NESI will thus strive to provide a critical and accurate picture of the state of internationalization of higher education in African countries by collecting good quality data through research for comparative analyses and working towards responding to the gap in empirical data in this discipline. As a SIG to ANIE, the activities of NESI are also being coordinated from the secretariat established in Moi University, Kenya. Responsible for this coordination is James Otieno Jowi, Moi University, Kenya (Chair) and Elizabeth Ayalew, University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (Vice Chair).
